Android’s Live Caption feature coming soon to phone calls

Android’s Live Caption feature coming soon to phone calls

Android's Live Caption feature, which was introduced by Google on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL with Android 10, will reportedly soon work on telephone calls, according to code found on the mobile operating system.

Live Caption, first shown at Google I/O 2019, utilizes Google's speech recognition to provide captions for just about any kind of content with sound, with a single tap on the volume rocker. However, it doesn't currently support telephone calls and video chats, even after the feature was finally added to older Pixel apparatus, in addition to OnePlus and Samsung smartphones.

It seems that Google is now expanding Live Caption's capabilities, based on code found from the Android 11 Developer Preview for the Pixel 4 by XDA Developers.
The code shown strings on the activation of Live Caption over a telephone call. Additionally, it indicates that enabling the feature will alert everyone on the telephone call that what they're saying will be transcribed. "Hi, the person you're about to speak with has call captions turned on. They'll see captions of what you say to help them listen along," says the sound file which will be played.
